Pro-life voice needs better representation

Last Thursday (May 12), thousands of pro-life supporters in Ottawa and Victoria participated in the annual March for Life. It is disappointing that the media in Victoria did not cover this event.

Why is it that rabbits get all the attention, when abortions are occurring across Canada on a routine basis?

These demonstrators are not there to lay a guilt trip on post-abortive women (probably many of these demonstrators have had abortions and would like to save women from the potential pain of abortion). They are not attempting to remove rights from women. Rather, they are trying to illuminate the horror of abortion, and empower women by giving them real choices like abstinence, adoption and parenting.

I suspect that when most people think of abortion they consider a woman who is five or eight weeks pregnant. I would like to make readers aware that late-term abortions are common, too.

Abortions can have complications and after effects, which potentially include regret, depression, increased drug and alcohol consumption, increased suicide rates, and even breast cancer. If you think that late-term abortions are done only due to fetal abnormalities, think again. A woman has only to state that she wants an abortion, because there is no abortion law in Canada.

If you are pregnant and considering abortion, ask to see your ultrasound first. Also, refer to your local community pregnancy centre.
