Orthotics are useless for those without feet

As of last year, people in B.C. with severe physical disabilities are not eligible to have the cost of custom orthotics covered by the Ministry of Social Development because “the minister must be satisfied that failure to provide the custom-made foot orthotic is likely to result in partial or complete amputation of the foot.” (A wee bit late for orthotics if you are ready to have your foot amputated.)

I guess we could always try melting down some free crack pipes and attempt to make our sons and daughters their own custom-made orthotics.
