LETTERS: Take for-profits out of Remembrance Day wreath-laying ceremonies

As I have done every November 11th since I moved to the Island in 1988, I attended the Remembrance Day ceremony in Sidney. It’s always such a stirring tribute to those who paid the supreme sacrifice . A huge thank you to all who participate and to those that organize it.

I have mostly been of two minds about the participation of for-profit commercial enterprises during the laying of the wreaths, but now my mind has been firmly made up.

This year when three large Sidney banks were announced to place their wreaths, not one representative of any of the three banks was there to perform this honour.

It struck me as being incredibly discourteous to those whose memory we honour.

In my opinion, it’s time to remove the participation of business organizations at this formal part of the ceremony.

Should they and others wish to do so, I am certain they could lay their wreaths once the formal ceremony has ended.
