LETTER: Sooke Road in desperate need of upgrades

One resident notes a lack of water for fire protection and personal use along Sooke Road

Prior to emergency services arriving on scene, I happened to be one of the many motorists on Sooke Road that drove past the recent brush fire east of Kangaroo Road last Wednesday.

The very predicable fallout from this, based on the history of the highway, was more damage than necessary and a road closure that stretched 11 km. Sooke residents and visitors were trapped on one side or the other.

I have lived on Sooke Road for most of my 40 years. Time and time again we are slapped in the face with a problem that results in injury, loss and frustration. The need for a greatly improved road is so evidently clear. Can we stop talking about it and get some progressive movement?

Make the road safer, make Sooke more accessible and hey, how about water? Nineteen kilometres of Sooke Road (Highway 14) does not have water for fire protection or for residents.

A new highway means safety, accessibly, economic hope, and less time in our vehicles.

Let the province know we need their support. Please add your thoughts to #Dividedby14.
