LETTER: B.C. Green Party deaf on speculation tax

Adam Olsen blames the housing crisis on the former B.C. Liberal government stating “they allowed the situation to erode”. This ignores the fact that affordable housing is a problem in all major cities in the world.

The mayors and councils of the Districts of North Saanich and Central Saanich and the Town of Sidney all sent letters to Mr. Olsen requesting he obtain an exemption from the speculation tax for the Peninsula. I know many North Saanich residents who did the same.

A clear majority of respondents to the speculation tax question in the Peninsula News Review said they do not support the tax. Mr Olsen’s response? “To work with the BC NDP government to encourage them to communicate their initiatives better”.

The recent byelection results in Nanaimo would indicate that it is the BC Green Party that has the communication problem and until they stand up for the wishes of the electorate they will continue to finish a distant third.
