Bikes should be registered and identified with a licence plate

One professional driver gives his thoughts on bike safety

Bicycle safety from the point of view of a Class 1 truck driver: I see mistakes from cars and bikes, but there are laws that car drivers have to follow, bikes not so much.

I think bikes should have to be registered just as all-terrain vehicles have to be and display a plate. The funds raised from the registration should go to funding a bike safety program, plates for them so they can be identified, and teaching the dos and don’ts of riding on streets.

I also think some roads should have no bikes allowed. West Coast Road for example, as there is no shoulder for them and when you come around a corner and there are bikes and traffic coming from the other direction, it’s scary for the bikes and the cars.
