A life is a life and must be protected

Re: Examine both sides of abortion debate (Letters, May 27)

I feel compelled to respond to Andy Mulcahy’s letter. While I agree with his point that a fetus is not a baby, I think it would be foolish to argue it isn’t a life. A fetus is not a baby, just as a baby is not a teenager and a teenager is not an octogenarian.

When we speak of life we are speaking of a chain of events, each one dependent on the one before making each link of equal value. To attempt to place greater value on one link over another simply because it is placed farther along the chain is to deny the reality of that dependency. Life is life and it is irreplaceable and therefore precious beyond measure.
