March 23, 1927 - August 28, 2019
On Monday, August 26, 2019 Ruth Barrett, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away suddenly at the age 92 at the James Bay Care Centre.
Ruth, granddaughter of Colwood pioneers George and Frances Heaslip, and daughter of George and Elizabeth Heaslip, was born March 23, 1927.
Ruth spent her life in the Westshore community and, in 1948, married Gordie Barrett, with whom she had two daughters, Bonnie and Sharon. A long-time member of the Juan de Fuca Senior Centre and an active walker, Ruth loved to play cards and socialize with her friends at the Centre and at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #91, Langford. At the age of 80, Ruth began to take her walking interest to the next level and participated in the Royal Victoria 8k and Victoria Goodlife Fitness 8k Road Races winning 5 gold medals and 1 silver medal between the years 2007 and 2012.
Predeceased by her husband and daughter (Bonnie), she now rests at their side - together forever.
Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sharon, grandchildren, Kelsey (Scott) and Orin (Sandra), as well as her great-grandchildren.
Our thanks to the staff at James Bay Care for their incredible care and compassion given to my mother.
No service or flowers by request. Donations in Ruth's memory are appreciated to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia https://alzheimer.ca/en/bc/Get-involved or charity of your choice.
