Youth pastor's court date adjourned to November

Case held over to give counsel time to prepare complicated case

Ira Parmenter, the former Colwood youth pastor accused of sexual exploitation had his court date adjourned until Nov. 1.

Parmenter, a youth pastor with the Colwood Pentecostal Church between 2003 and 2009, is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl between July 2007 and November 2008. Parmenter, 33, was arrested in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL., last May.

Colwood Pentecostal Church Pastor Al Funk said Parmenter left his position in the fall of 2009 on his own accord and that church staff had no knowledge of the alleged crime until the mother came forward. Church staff have been cooperating with the RCMP throughout the investigation.

The case was held over in order to give counsel time to prepare what was described as a complicated case.

Parmenter is expected to enter a plea at that time.
