View Royal Fire Rescue was called to a gas leak on Admirals Road at roughly 9:45 a.m. Thursday.

A contractor, working to widen the roadway, struck a three-inch natural gas supply main.

“It caused a significant leak, we had to close Admirals for about an hour,” said View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst. “Fortis attended and they contained the leak.”

Due to the size of the leak, Colwoood Fire Rescue was also called to assist.

The incident occured near Thomas Road and traffic on Admirals Road was redirected at Maplebank Road. Traffic from Colville Road was rerouted toward CFB Esquimalt on Admirals Road.

Crews had the line repaired and the roadway reopened to traffic by 11 a.m.
