View Royal convenience store held up at gunpoint

West Shore RCMP identified suspect using video surveillance

An Esquimalt man appeared in court Wednesday on charges relating to the robbery of a convenience in View Royal earlier this week.

Just after midnight Tuesday morning, a man entered the Mac's convenience store at 1510 Admirals Rd., produced a handgun and made off with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was hurt during the robbery.

West Shore RCMP, aided by the Saanich Police Dog unit, responded to the call but were unable to locate the suspect. Investigators later identified the individual through video surveillance. He was located and arrested later Tuesday morning without incident near his home in Esquimalt.

Police also seized a firearm from the man's residence after executing a search warrant.
