Victoria police recognized for innovation

The Victoria Police Department was recognized for its innovative Strategic Plan 2020 on Friday night by the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber’s annual Business Awards were held at Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa in Langford. Business leadership, outstanding customer service, sustainable business practices and employee and employer of the year were among the 13 award categories, plus a lifetime achievement award.

The department’s strategic plan, launched last November, includes an online video, a small booklet about the department’s long-term five-step plan to becoming Canada’s safest region by 2020. Social media tools are also being used to spread the word about the plan.

“The Victoria Police Department has chosen to adopt innovative business practices, and the strength of those practices were recognized by business leaders at the annual Business Awards,” Bruce Carter, chamber CEO, said in a statement.
