Victoria Hospital Foundation blames postal strike for lagging donations

The foundation has raised less than half of the $361,000 needed to purchase the equipment, used to create a 3D map of a patient’s surgical site. The imagery allows doctors to focus on the exact location they need to reach during an operation.

An organization that relies on letter mail for donations continues to to feel the effects of this spring’s labour dispute at Canada Post.

The Victoria Hospitals Foundation campaign for a new neuronavigation system is behind schedule because of the postal strike, which ended two months ago.

The foundation has raised less than half of the $361,000 needed to purchase the equipment, used to create a 3D map of a patient’s surgical site. The imagery allows doctors to focus on the exact location they need to reach during an operation.

“Historically our spring campaigns have been very successful,” said Melanie McKenzie, executive director of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation in a press release.“We know the postal strike has had a profound impact on donations and we want to let people know that they can still give to this campaign.”

Donations can be made by returning the direct mail letter residents received at home, by contacting the Victoria Hospitals Foundation at 250-519-1750 or online at www.victoriahf.ca.
