UPDATE: Suspect in manhunt arrested Tuesday afternoon in Sooke

West Shore RCMP take Derek Fast into custody with help from other divisions

Not long after a warrant was issued for his arrest, Derek Ernest Fast was taken into custody in Sooke today around 4:35 p.m.

Fast, 29, was wanted for fleeing from police and allegedly attempting to run over an officer during an incident last Friday that ended up at Finlayson Arm Road.

Several West Shore RCMP plainclothed officers, with assistance from the Sooke RCMP and RCMP Police Dog Services, arrested Fast without incident.

Based on recent interactions with Fast, the West Shore RCMP Major Crime Unit, Street Crime Unit and Crime Reduction Unit combined on his apprehension once his whereabouts were determined.

Fast, who has a lengthy criminal history, is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear at a Tele-bail hearing Wednesday morning (Sept. 30). He is facing multiple Criminal Code charges, including Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Stolen Property (over $5,000), Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
