Two arrested in overnight stolen car investigations in Langford

The unrelated investigations occurred in the Goldstream Avenue area

Police on the West Shore made two arrests overnight Thursday (Feb. 2) in separate stolen vehicle investigations.

The West Shore RCMP started the first investigation around 9 a.m. Thursday when they received multiple calls regarding a green 1994 Mercury Topaz being driven erratically in the area of Meaford and Station Avenue. Soon after those calls came in, police received a report that a vehicle with the same description has been stolen from Goldstream Avenue.

Officers eventually found the car and arrested a 41-year-old man suspected of possessing stolen property, impaired driving, possession of a controlled substance and driving while prohibited. Police said the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest, and a search found 2.5 grams of a controlled substance, which police did not identify in a news release.

Once sober, the man was released from custody on an undertaking to appear in court May 4.

The second investigation began around 2 a.m. Feb. 3, when an officer on patrol came across a green 2002 Jeep Wrangler idling behind businesses in the 770 block of Goldstream Ave. The officer determined the driver was wanted on a warrant for prohibited driving, and later discovered the Jeep had been reported stolen as well.

Police say the suspect, who they provided no details about, was arrested and “will be facing charges” of driving while prohibited and possession of stolen property.
