Tiny electoral area pocket withdrawn from parks and rec society

Juan de Fuca land near Malahat contributed small percentage of total West Shore Parks and Rec revenues

Colwood council has received notice that the Capital Regional District – actually a small portion of the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area adjacent to the Malahat – has withdrawn from the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society. The membership withdrawal was originally passed at a 2015 CRD board meeting, but the official notice was not received by Colwood until last Dec. 20.

Because the financial contributions of this section of the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area are small compared to the rest of the society's municipal membership, the impact of the withdrawal is not expected to be significant.

In 2015, the JDF electoral area contributed $23,022 in municipal taxes, while the society's total revenue topped $11 million – nearly $5 million of which came in the form of tax requisitions.
