The Q Centre targeted in Colwood break-in

ATM targeted in attempted smash-and-grab at The Q Centre

West Shore Parks and Recreation staff will continue with their usual security precautions, despite a recent attempted smash-and-grab at The Q Centre in Colwood.

Linda Barnes, West Shore Parks and Recreation administrator, said the break-in took place just before midnight on Dec. 31 when somebody smashed a glass door and appeared to target an ATM in the arena lobby.

"They knew what they were after," she said, adding that whomever gained entry to the lobby area was unsuccessful in getting the machine open.

No damage was done to the facility other than the broken glass door, Barnes said, but the ATM possibly sustained damage.

She could not confirm whether there were multiple suspects involved, noting that the incident was now a police matter. Contacted earlier this week, West Shore RCMP would not disclose any further information about the break-in.
