Stolen goods recovered thanks to Sooke RCMP traffic stop

A driver was arrested in connection with outstanding warrants

Sooke RCMP has recovered stolen property and made an arrest in connection with an outstanding warrant.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Dec. 22, according to a news release published Dec. 31, and identified the driver as having an outstanding warrant. Upon further investigation, they were able to recover multiple stolen items, including personal identification, household items and tools.

Police were able to connect some of the items to other open investigations into thefts from vehicles, thanks to serial number records.

“This is a good reminder for the community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity they come across,” Sooke RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Brett Sinden said in a release. “We know that not all crimes such as thefts from vehicles are reported by the public likely because they find it inconvenient. We would like to see all recovered items returned to their respective owners and we encourage victims of crimes of this nature to take advantage of our on-line reporting tool found on the RCMP website.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking that if anyone has not reported thefts to report these through their online reporting tool or by contacting the Sooke RCMP Detachment at 250-642-5241.
