A visible haze in parts of Greater Victoria on Wednesday morning hints at the smokey skies to come as modelled by BlueSky Canada.
FireSmoke Canada is the Canadian portal for information about wildfire weather and smoke, sharing BlueSky Canada smoke forecasts and other fire information produced by the Weather Forecast Research Team at the University of British Columbia.
The forecast shows noticeable smoke impacts hitting Vancouver Island Wednesday afternoon and growing more prevalent overnight, dissipating later Thursday.
Air quality warnings have been issued by Environment Canada for other parts of the province as many central and interior B.C. communities are being – or likely to be over the next 24 to 48 hours – impacted by wildfire smoke.

Smoke is widespread and extends into southeastern B.C. along the Rocky Mountains, according to Environment Canada.
Haze and smoke conditions will be variable within these regions. Conditions are expected to worsen later in the day and overnight period.
The air quality health index forecast shows Island numbers – Victoria, West Shore and Nanaimo – remain at low health risk for May 17 and 18.
