Saanich Police continue to investigate a “suspicious” death some 24 hours after the discovery of a female body in Rutledge Park.

“Until we can determine how this lady died and who she is, we are treating it as suspicious,” said Sgt. Julie Fast.

Fast, however, did not offer any additional details about this incident beyond what police released Monday morning. “There is no update on this file as of yet,” she said Tuesday morning.

Fast said yesterday the identity of the woman, as well as the cause of her death remain unknown.

“This morning some [people] were walking through Rutldge Park and noticed an unresponsive female, they called us and we arrived around 8:30 a.m.,” Fast said Monday. “She was pronounced dead then.”

Saanich resident Doug Kitson, who frequents Rutledge Park to play Pokémon, first spotted the deceased woman at 6:50 a.m., but thought that she was asleep. He said a blanket covered the woman, who was not wearing shoes. When he returned later Monday morning, she was still there, he said.
