UPDATE: Students are returning to classes at Royal Bay Secondary after the smell of gas caused the school to temporarily evacuate late Friday morning.

According to the Sooke School District, the smell was caused by fumes from a gas leak in the area pulled into the school through an air intake.

Colwood Fire Rescue and Fortis BC were on scene and deemed the school safe to re-enter shortly before noon.
