Return of the tow truck scam

The tow-truck scam has resurfaced and Greater Victoria businesses are being warned to stay cautious.

The tow-truck scam has resurfaced and Greater Victoria businesses are being warned to stay cautious.

In October and November, businesses were reporting a man would enter, stating he knew the owner of the business and asked for $30 to $50 to pay an urgent tow-truck bill.

He would give a false phone number, and leave with the cash.

Victoria police arrested a man in November. Brian Llewlyn Grover, 40, was charged with four counts of fraud.

Police have received reports of a similar scam recurring, but aren’t certain the same person is responsible. The suspect in the recent fraud reports is 40-45 years old.

Any business targeted in the scam can call Victoria police at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
