The flag at Langford’s city hall is at half mast in honour of a much-loved employee. Victor Chen passed away from natural causes early Saturday, with his family by his side. Chen served for 20 years in Langford’s engineering department as manager of engineering and construction.

Chen played a leading role in building so much of what you see around Langford today, noted George Henshall, deputy director of engineering. “He was my mentor and a great friend,” he said. “He will always be missed, but never forgotten. Everyone loved Victor.”

The City has scheduled a celebration of life for Chen on Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort. Speeches are scheduled from approximately 5 to 5:30 p.m. Parking may be a challenge, so staff have advised attendees to arrive early. Personnel will be on site to assist with parking.

Please note Langford’s city hall building will be completely closed at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday to allow staff to attend the celebration of life for Chen. Langford Mayor Stew Young, council and staff want to thank the community for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
