West Shore RCMP says they have cleared a View Royal man of any criminal activity in connection with a “suspicious occurrence.”

Police had asked the man to come forward after they had received calls about a partially clothed man near the 200 block of Helmcken Road in View Royal. In on least one instance the man was spotted within eyesight of View Royal Elementary School.

But after speaking to the man, police have cleared him of any wrongdoing.

“We thank this individual for coming forward and being fully cooperative with police. West Shore RCMP will continue to investigate any such reports of suspicious or criminal activity taking place on the trail systems with the utmost diligence as the safety and security of our youth and citizens accessing the trail systems must take precedence,” police spokesperson Cpl. Nancy Saggar wrote in a statement.

Police said past reports of indecent acts happening on trails on the West Shore prompted them to put the release out calling to speak with the man, even though there were no reports of the man approaching anyone.
