Sooke RCMP have increased traffic enforcement along Sooke and West Coast roads to combat aggressive driving.

Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur said it’s a matter of public safety to slow motorists down on the busiest thoroughfare through Sooke.

“Our number 1 goal is not to be writing tickets to anybody in the community, but to make the community safer,” he said. “You should expect a lot more enforcement.”

McArthur said the increased police presence is due to complaints from residents.

Police will soon expand traffic enforcement to Otter Point Road, especially near the Grant Road intersection.

The increased police presence comes on the heels of an announcement this week that police will increase enforcement on distracted driving across B.C.

Dangerous driving behaviour claims nine lives each year on Vancouver Island, says ICBC.
