Morning fire claims car in Langford

A car on its way to Langford caught fire due to engine problems Thursday morning.

Langford Fire Rescue arrived on scene at the northbound side of the Trans-Canada Highway just south of the Millstream interchange around 8:30 a.m.

“The vehicle was completely destroyed,” said fire Chief Bob Beckett. “The fire was contained to the engine department. We extended one hose and popped the hood to extinguish the fire.”

The fire produced a lot of smoke due to fire feeding off oil and fuel. The stench of burning oil filled the surrounding area for a short time. The driver was unharmed.
