Cinnamon Lennox, the Sooke resident who is the holder of the lucky $1 million Lotto 6/49 ticket drawn on Jan. 12, says she has some big plans for the money.

“I want to stay alive and enjoy the money,” she said jokingly.

“I’m going to buy a late model Corvette. I love those, but it doesn’t have to be new. We will stay in a nice hotel and then take the kids to Kobe Steak House so they can watch the chef prepare the food right in front of them. We will take it easy from there,” she added.

Her long term plans are a bit more ambitious and include the purchase of land and the construction of a new house for her kids, father, and cousin.

“It’s going to be a dream house,” she said.

“There will definitely be a hot tub and a pool, and a nice view, of course.”

She added that she saw the win as a blessing and admitted that the money will help to reduce any stress felt by the family.

Lennox purchased her winning ticket at the Pharmasave on Sooke Road.

“I was at home and checked the ticket with my family. My dad was in denial, so we went to the store and scanned it there,” she said.

The cash win was one of the 101 guaranteed prizes in the 6/49 SuperDraw in which BCLC offers 100x $10,000 and a single $1 million prize.

News that the winner has come forward has ended the coffee-shop conversations around who might have won the prize and whether the winner was aware of their odds-defying luck.

Those conversations were fueled by the fact that a $1 million Lotto 6/49 ticket sold in Victoria last year went unclaimed and was deemed invalid as of Jan. 3, 2019.

But that scenario is extremely rare, with $6.2 million having gone unclaimed in the past 10 years, according to the BCLC.

In truth, B.C. gets its share of winners.

Another ticket also netted Nanaimo resident Dale Euerby a million dollars late last week and, like Lennox, sent him in search of the vintage sports car he’s long wanted.

In the 2017-2018 fiscal year, British Columbians won about $687 million in both national and provincial lotteries and B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $115 million in Lotto 6/49 winnings alone.
