West Shore RCMP officers are investigating a report of a suspect who discharged a firearm near the entrance of Jordie Lunn Bike Park located at 2990 Irwin Rd. in Langford.

On Feb. 20 at approximately 12:25 a.m., police received multiple 911 calls from residents in the area who reported hearing two to three loud bangs in the vicinity. One witness reported interacting with a lone male suspect who brandished a firearm.

West Shore RCMP officers secured several blocks as the suspect was last seen headed eastbound on Irwin Road and crossing in front of the entrance to the bike park. The Police Dog Section was deployed and located casings at a construction site near this location.

The suspect was not located.

The West Shore RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating this incident and officers have canvassed the area searching for both witnesses and video surveillance. Police are looking for the suspect that has been described as:

Caucasian male between the age of 40 to 50 years old.

Approximately 6’1 tall.

Heavy build, approximately 250-300 pounds.

Wearing a white shirt and light-colored pants and baseball cap.

Light-coloured shoes.

If you can identify this male, you are urged to call the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 and do not approach the suspect yourself.

Police are also requesting anyone in the area who may have home video surveillance or dash camera footage to review it for the period between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Feb. 20 and call police if you think you captured the suspect on camera.

“West Shore RCMP has not received any other reports of firearms being discharged in this manner. We wish to advise the public of this crime and ask that you report any suspicious activity right away by calling police. The motive and specific actions of the suspect in this matter remain unknown and under investigation. Investigators are working hard to identify this suspect and are requesting the public’s assistance in this matter,” said Insp. Stephen Rose, in a news release.
