Langford’s new council approved its first multi-storey residential development since taking office last October.
While the current council is largely comprised of councillors who called for a slowdown on the pace of development during the municipal election in October, the six-storey apartment building on Bray Avenue was a holdover from the previous council.
Current councillors were unable to hear new information on it – since the public hearing had been held in July. Ultimately, council voted to unanimously support it, giving the green light to the build.
Currently, there are three single-family dwellings in the spot where the new building is going. Those will be replaced by the six-storey building which will have around 115 units, with 1.25 parking spaces per unit (one for those living there and 0.25 for visitor parking).
Bray Avenue and the surrounding area is largely single-family housing, but is set to densify in the coming years, with several other projects approved.
These include two six-storey apartments across the street, a townhouse development on the corner of Bray and Carlow, and two residential towers of 24 and 15 storeys each containing ground floor commercial uses at the corner of Bray and Jacklin, according to Rachel Sansom of Grayland Consulting, during a presentation she gave to council during the public hearing in July.
