Langford firefighters put out barn blaze on Happy Valley Road

A man was working in the barn but left before calling 911

Langford Fire Rescue put out a barn fire around 10:30 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 2) night behind a house on Happy Valley Road.

The department was called by a resident who was working in the barn’s workshop area when the fire broke out. The man got out of the barn safely before calling 911. Langford Fire acting deputy chief Simon Chadwick said the speedy response from Langford’s mutual aid partners, Colwood and View Royal, in addition to Metchosin, helped the situation.

“Otherwise it could have been a lot worse,” said Chadwick.

The barn was heavily damaged but the fire, but not completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
