Langford Coun. Matt Sahlstrom called on fellow councillor Lillian Szpak to explain her resignation as chair of the protective services committee “in the spirit of transparency,” during Monday’s council meeting.
Szpak has not served as chair of the protective services committee since February after she resigned from the position. In an interview, Szpak said she resigned temporarily while a privacy investigation and an ombudsman complaint against her is resolved. Coun. Roger Wade was voted in as her replacement at Feb. 7’s council meeting.
Szpak added she was surprised by Sahsltrom’s motion. She said she’s seen nothing in writing about the investigation and doesn’t know the timeline when it will be completed.
“I always embrace the opportunity to be open and explain.”
Szpak was not present at Monday’s meeting. Sahlstrom gave notice of the motion during Monday’s meeting, and at a future meeting council will ask for a seconder.
The City of Langford declined to comment.
