Jacklin Road has reopened to traffic after five months but there’s still some work to be done.

The road isn’t fully clear, there are still orange cones on the road, marking what will be the left hand turn lane. The speed limit will remain 30 kilometres an hour while construction continues on some parts of the roadway.

In February, the City of Langford closed Jacklin between Jenkins and Division avenues in both directions. Traffic was rerouted onto Division Avenue as crews completed a number of improvements, including the installation of a new signalized intersection at Terlane Avenue, bike lanes, a new sidewalk on the east side of Jacklin, additional turn lanes and through lanes at intersection of Jacklin Road and Jenkins Avenue, and landscaping improvements.

The bulk of the project included replacing two existing water mains, extending sewer services and installing power lines underground.

But it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Some local businesses said they were affected during the closure were looking forward to it reopening.

Once improvements on Jacklin Road are complete, crews will then move on to improvements on Jenkins Avenue, which will include the installation of sidewalks on the south side, bike lanes and a new signalized intersection opposite the TD Canada Trust building at Westshore Town Centre. The entire project is slated to be complete at the end of the summer.

***Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the road closure was related to construction of a nearby commercial development. The roadway was closed while crews extended sewer services, installed underground power lines and added other safety improvements to the area. We apologies for any confusion this error may have caused.
