Human remains found on Malahat identified

The human remains found on the Malahat last Friday have been identified as belonging to 72-year-old Richard "Blair" Young of Victoria.

The human remains found on the Malahat last Friday have been identified as 72-year-old Richard "Blair" Young of Victoria.

Young was reported missing to the Victoria Police Department on Feb. 14.

His remains were recovered on March 3 by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, the BC Coroners Service, Cowichan Valley and Saltspring Island Search and Rescue.

His death is being investigated as a homicide.

"While this investigation remains in the early stages, there is nothing to suggest that the public is at risk," said a statement from Cpl. Tammy Douglas of the RCMP.

The family is requesting their privacy at this time.

"The death of Mr. Young is tragic and our thoughts are with his family. We are asking those individuals who have information about his death to come forward." said Douglas.
