Former navy officer handed 2 years in prison for sexual offences in Victoria, Esquimalt

Offences related to 75-year-old’s home-based acupuncture, massage practice

An Esquimalt man and former navy officer will spend two years in prison for nine sexual offences he committed in relation to his home-based Chinese medicine practice.

Kit Wong, now 75, was convicted of eight counts of sexual assault and one count of touching a young person for a sexual purpose at the Victoria courthouse Jan. 17. The offences stretch from 2000 to 2018.

Following a year-long investigation, Victoria police officers arrested Wong in 2018 and recommended four sexual assault charges. The number of charges grew as more people reported their experiences to police.

At least four of the charges were in relation to Wong’s acupuncture, massage and Chinese medicine practice at his home in Esquimalt. Seven of the charges are listed as at or near Esquimalt, while two are listed as at or near Victoria.

As an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Wong was also known to practice Chinese medicine on service members, although it’s not known if any of the charges are related to his time in service.

On Feb. 2, Wong was sentenced to two years less a day for his offences, to be followed by three years of probation. Wong will remain on the national sex offender registry for 20 years. He also has a firearms ban for 10 years.
