An alert citizen halted a theft that would have made for an egg-specially troublesome Easter morning for a local tire shop.

At around 5 a.m. on Sunday, a resident called West Shore RCMP and reported suspicious activity surrounding a white pickup truck parked against the back of a tire shop on Sooke Road. When police arrived, they found a woman inside the truck and a man crawling outside. Tires were located in the back of the truck.

Later, a representative for the store confirmed that the tires belonged to the business. It’s alleged the suspects made their way into a fenced compound to get to the tires.

Andrew Trueman, 37, and Carol Poole, 45, both of Sidney, were arrested and later released on bail and are due to appear again in court on May 4.

Police would like to remind the public that suspicious activity should be reported without hesitation. Anyone with any information in this investigation is asked to contact RCMP at 250-474-2264 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or victoriacrimestoppers.ca.
