Metchosin residents may notice some smoke coming from Rocky Point in March and April.

The Department of National Defence in partnership with the BC Wildfire Service will be burning debris piles at Rocky Point in Metchosin. Up to 20 piles of tree and shrub debris will be burned over 10 different days between March 17 and April 30.

Burning will be conducted when weather and ventilation conditions are favorable and noticeable smoke will be created during burning.

The debris piles have been created through management of vegetation, and include Scotch broom, gorse and small conifers.

Vegetation management is necessary to maintain military training areas, protect habitat for species at risk and reduce fire hazard.
