Dashcam shows driver cross two lanes at McKenzie before spinning out

The dashcam video from a motor vehicle incident on the Trans Canada Highway and McKenzie intersection was posted to YouTube earlier this week. The incident actually happened on May 31 at about 1:30 p.m.

The video starts while driving westbound entering View Royal section of the Trans Canada Highway. Suddenly, the driver of a grey sedan uses the brakes to slow down despite being in the fast lane. However, in its investigation, Saanich Police confirmed the drivers had started their interaction prior to the video posted online, and this action was likely targeted to aggravate, or at least slow down, the driver who is using the dashcam.

Fast forward about 1.5 kilometres later and the same driver in the grey sedan, still in the fast lane, crosses two lanes and collides with the front of the dashcam.

“This is clearly an example of road rage,” said Sgt. Jereme Leslie. “This type of high risk driving behaviour put other road users in the area at risk and we conducted a lengthy investigation into the matter.”

In the end, the driver of the silver vehicle was issued a violation ticket under the MVA for an unsafe lane change, Leslie said.
