A cyclist was struck while crossing McCallum Road in Langford late Wednesday morning. She was transported to hospital but the extent of her injuries is unknown at this time.

A 50-year-old cyclist was rushed to hospital Wednesday after being struck by a transport truck as she crossed McCallum Road at Millstream Road.

The woman was treated at the scene by Langford Fire Rescue and B.C. Ambulance. While the full extent of her injuries were not initially known, they were not believed to be life-threatening.

Several lanes around McCallum and Millstream roads were closed that morning as crews investigated the collision. Const. Alex Berube, West Shore RCMP spokesperson, said the truck driver was turning right onto McCallum Road towards Costco when the cyclist was struck, shortly before 10:30 a.m.

The crumpled frame of the bike was visible under the front axle of the Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. truck, with the almost unrecognizable remains of a helmet roughly 15 feet behind the rear axle.

Berube confirmed the bicycle was completely stuck underneath the truck frame. He noted investigators are still gathering evidence pertaining to the collision to determine whether charges will be laid.

Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement also attended the scene, which shut down a portion of the intersection until roughly 1:30 p.m.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
