Cowichan Grinch steals girls’ dog-biscuit cart

Kids devastated by theft

The Christmas Grinch appears to be alive and well and living in the Cowichan Valley.

Sheri Williams and her two young daughters, Bryann, 11, and Braith, 13, had seen the potential for a small business when they moved into the family’s new home adjacent to Bright Angel Park, which is popular for dog walkers.

The trio spent last weekend baking dog treats to sell singly and in Christmas gift bags to the dog walkers, as well preparing a cart to carry their inventory and signs to advertise their biscuits.

Williams said the small business that was operating from their back gate just inside the park was becoming quite popular in its first five days, but when she went out to retrieve the cart and the biscuits and bring it inside just after dark on the afternoon of Dec. 18, it was not there.

“I checked with the park’s caretaker on the chance that he might have taken it for some reason, but he said he never saw it,” she said.

“My girls are devastated. As well as earning some extra money for Christmas, they were going to donate a portion of their profits to the SPCA. They spent a lot of time and effort on this project and now all that work is gone. It’s so sad that someone would do this just days before Christmas.”

Williams said the girls have expressed an interest in starting all over again.

“We’ve gotten good reviews from those who bought the biscuits, so they’re talking about getting another cart and cooking the biscuits again,” she said.

“We didn’t bother to call the police because the actual value of what was stolen was very little. It’s just the fact that some Grinch out there would do this at this time of year that bothers me the most.”

Williams said if anyone has any information as to what happened to the cart and the biscuits, she can be contacted by email at sheriwilliams@shaw.ca.
