West Shore Parks and Recreation is exploring different ways to improve its product.

Jonathan Huggett has been engaged to move forward with several recommendations from an organizational review that was undertaken by the owner municipalities earlier this year, said Sandy Clarke, acting administrator for the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society.

Huggett will identify ways to ensure West Shore Parks and Recreation continues to take a sustainable approach to providing diverse and affordable sports and recreation facilities and programs. “Community benefits, demand for various recreational services and costs will be considered for all activity areas,” Clarke said in a news release. “Specific emphasis will be placed on The Q Centre, and finding ways to accommodate a wider range of events in that facility.”

The hiring of Huggett comes on the heels of the approval in September of an updated, balanced budget for 2018 by the member municipalities of Colwood, Langford, View Royal, Metchosin and the Highlands. Initial approval was delayed due to budget-sharing concerns that resulted in the appointment of the chief administrative officers from those municipalities being assigned to the board until the operational review is completed.
