The public and residents of the Christie Point Apartments have another chance this week to hear what owner/operator Realstar has in mind for the proposed redevelopment of the rental property in View Royal.

An open house for existing residents happens Wednesday (Feb. 1) from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Christie Point social room. That will be followed up by a neighbourhood open house, which is scheduled for this Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Songhees Wellness Centre, 1000 Admirals Rd.

In its invitation, Realstar reiterated its overarching goals for the estimated $20-million rental project redevelopment.

“Our desire is to provide new rental homes at a scale where rents for residents are within an achievable range, while respecting and enhancing the natural values of this property, and honouring the historical relationships with the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations,” it stated.

“We are trying to balance valued interests and ensure that we have supports in place to ease with any transitions that might be necessary.”

Melanie Molloy, with the group Christie Point Advocates indicated in an information email sent to fellow residents her encouragement with seeing Realstar scheduling open houses and showing a willingness to work with the Christie Point residents working group.

“We … recognize that this an opportunity for valuable community participation in this project,” Molloy wrote.

The project application has come to the Town of View Royal and is currently being worked on by Town staff before it comes before council, sometime in the next couple of months.
