Victoria Police responded in support of the Victoria Fire Department after a car fire was reported at an apartment complex near the Gorge waterway earlier today.

The call originally came in at 10:19 a.m. when inspectors were on scene to investigate a blue Volkswagen Jetta on fire in the parking lot of 2930 Washington Ave. The burned out car appeared to have ‘reflective’ tape on the bumper.

Earlier this morning, Victoria Police responded to a robbery in the 1300-block of Topaz Avenue where a blue Volkswagen Jetta was seen fleeing the scene of the crime. That car was also described as having ‘reflective’ tape on its bumper.

Investigators from the Major Crime Detective Division and Forensic Identification Unit have launched an investigation, saying it is too early to say if there is any risk to the public. They have not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected, or indicated that any arrests have been made.

Witnesses who may have seen a blue Volkswagen Jetta driving erratically on Finalyson Ave. or Blanshard St. between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. this morning, or who may have information on the home invasion are asked to call the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 or report anonumously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
