Talk about going for the brass ring.

Staff at Saanich’s Munro Centre, home to the Saanich News, are investigating the theft of some eight drain covers. Each cover is five inches wide and a total of 16 covers ring the walkway circling the building.

Richard Severson, one of the centre’s maintenance staff, said one of the office workers alerted him to the missing covers.

“I’m sure they were here yesterday, because I walked through here yesterday, and I didn’t notice them gone,” he said.

He said it is not clear how much the pieces are worth. “I know brass is worthy money, but I couldn’t say how much,” he said.

It is also unclear who might have stolen them. “There are so many people who go through here, who are homeless and that,” he said. “They are always going through the bins, looking for stuff to either sell or whatever.”
