B.C. Transit sees spike in ridership, fare revenue

A new record of more than 25 million riders took the bus in Greater Victoria over the past year, representing a 1.6 increase of more than 400,000 users over the previous fiscal year, according to B.C. Transit.

The boost translated into $1.8 million in additional fare revenues, helping to offset the $99.6-million cost to run the service in the same period.

The bus company is funded by fares, the province, property and fuel taxes and some bus advertising.
