Royal Roads University is breaking new ground with the launch of its new Langford campus, a forward-thinking initiative designed to bring higher education closer to the community.

Slated to open this summer, the campus in downtown Langford is a first-of-its-kind partnership between Royal Roads University (RRU), the University of Victoria (UVic), Camosun College and the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC). It will also include space for programming by School District 62 (Sooke).

Unlike traditional multi-institutional campuses, Royal Roads owns the property and serves as a central hub, providing students with an accessible, interdisciplinary education model designed to prepare them for the real world.

“The West Shore region is one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada, and our Langford campus is right at the heart of it,” said Royal Roads University President, Philip Steenkamp. “We’re thrilled to offer accessible post-secondary education within this dynamic community, allowing students to achieve their academic and career goals close to home.”

Three programs, endless possibilities

Starting in September, students will have the opportunity to enrol in three dynamic undergraduate certificate programs, each designed with flexibility in mind:

●  Business and sustainability: A program that blends core business skills with a sustainability focus, for those who believe in doing business with a conscience — balancing results with sustainability and social good.

●  Social sciences: Ideal for those interested in communications, contemporary Canadian and humanitarian studies, this program fosters critical thinking and real-world problem-solving.

●  Applied environmental science: A hands-on program tailored for students looking to drive positive change in environmental and sustainability fields.

What makes these programs stand out is Royal Roads’ learning, teaching and research model which moves beyond traditional classroom lectures. Students can expect experiential learning opportunities, such as working on real-world challenges, outdoor education and insights from Indigenous scholars and industry professionals.

Unmatched student support & financial assistance

Understanding that every student’s journey is unique, Royal Roads offers one-on-one enrolment advising, helping students navigate their education paths and career goals. Additionally, financial support is available through entrance awards, including the Royal Roads Entrance Award/Bursary and the Langford Entrance Award. Unique to this year’s applications is the “First Class” entrance award, which is a $1,000 award for the first 100 students to be accepted into the undergraduate program.

“The 'First Class' Entrance Awards not only celebrate the launch of our RRU undergraduate programs but also address the critical need for affordability and accessibility in higher education,” Steenkamp says.

Prospective students and families are invited to experience RRU’s unique learning approach through interactive breakout sessions at an open house on March 1 at Royal Roads’ Colwood campus.

The event includes:

●  A university fair with faculty and program representatives

●  An info session on Royal Roads’ offerings

●  Hands-on learning activities for students

●  Campus tours and a complimentary lunch

●  A chance to win a Royal Roads student starter pack, including a brand-new Apple Macbook Air, RRU Swag and student experience passes to Boulder House, WildPlay and Malahat Skywalk.

With applications due in the coming months, and the Langford campus building opening this summer, now is the perfect time to explore your future at Royal Roads. Learn more and register for the open house today!
