A 73-year-old woman is in critical condition after being run over by her car in her driveway Thursday night.

“For unknown reasons, [she] got trapped under a car and it rolled over her and dragged her down her driveway,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, RCMP spokesman.

The accident occurred on Monterey Drive near Cheyenne Place at about 8 p.m. A neighbour was first on scene and was able to jack up the car.

“She [suffered] critical injuries and subsequently she was transported by ground ambulance to Victoria when she was a little more stable last night,” O’Brien said. “She’s in critical condition.”

He said police talked to witnesses but don’t know how the incident occurred. The car was not turned on at the time of the accident.

A section of the street was closed as the RCMP investigated and a traffic reconstructionist was called to the scene.
