In a modern twist on the classic tailgate barbecue, the mayors of five West Shore communities are participating in an all-electric cook-off using induction stoves plugged into Ford F-150 Lightning pickup trucks.
Colwood Mayor Doug Kobayashi will face off against View Royal Mayor Sid Tobias for the crown of power chef of the West Shore. Mayors Scott Goodmanson of Langford, Marie-Terese Little of Metchosin and Maya Tait of Sooke will be the judges.
It is all part of the free Power Play festival celebrating all things electric, put on by West Shore non-profit ReImagine West Shore that aims to encourage people to make simple changes in their lives to build a more sustainable future.
“We’re excited to welcome folks to our party with a purpose,” said Cindy Moyer, ReImagine’s president, in a news release. “We’ve got something fun for everyone … electric cars, Kids Zone, live music, snacks, a costume contest, and cool exhibits with experts to help people find ways to save money and make some positive shift happen for the planet.”
The festival will include music from local funk band Hot Pot, as well as kids activities such as face-painting and kite-making.
The event will be held on Saturday, July 28 at the Craigflower Manor National Historic Site from noon to 4 p.m.
