The Town of View Royal and the Peninsula Streams Society have teamed for a saltwater marsh restoration project.

Work is underway to restore a saltwater marsh in View Royal Park, in an effort to create a thriving habitat for birds, small wildlife and improve water quality.

The Craigflower Estuary tidal marsh restoration project is a collaboration between the Town of View Royal and the Peninsula Streams Society.

Restoration works will include planting native species to create a dense, shrubby riparian area, and locals are invited to join ‘planting work parties’ this week.

“There are a lot of plants that need to go in the ground and get tucked in,” said a View Royal press release.

The planting work parties take place on:

  • Thursday, July 18, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.;
  • Friday, July 19, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.;
  • Saturday, July 20, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Organizers have asked volunteers to meet at in the parking lot at View Royal Park, 60 Pheasant Lane.
