The speed limit is now 40 km/hr on Latoria Boulevard between Metchosin Road and Quarry Street.

In a effort to improve road safety, the City of Colwood has reduced speed limits in the Royal Bay neighbourhood.

Latoria Boulevard, between Metchosin Road and Quarry Street, now has a 40 km/h speed limit, and residential streets throughout the Royal Bay neighbourhood are restricted to a maximum of 30 km/h.

"The changes are intended to support road safety in Colwood's highest density neighbourhood where there is high pedestrian traffic and frequent crossings of Latoria Boulevard, a busy arterial road," according to a release from the city.

The city resolved to make the changes at a meeting in July.

At the meeting councillors also directed staff to review the high-volume intersection of Ryder Hesjdal Way and Latoria Boulevard to explore options for enhancing the crosswalk to increase pedestrian safety.

The ongoing work to evaluate road safety across Colwood is part of the city's Transportation Master Plan, which is currently being updated.
