VIDEO: Boat ablaze in Sidney's Tsehum Harbour

Witnesses reported the burning boat around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday

A mid-sized motor boat went up in flames Tuesday afternoon (March 18) in Tsehum Harbour, a popular yachting destination just off the coast of Sidney.

The incident, reported around 2:30 p.m., sent a plume of dark grey smoke billowing into the sky, visible from nearby areas.

Members of the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation spill response arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire.

A rescue boat was also present, positioned near the burning vessel.

While the fire engulfed a significant portion of the boat, the cause remains unknown as of this report.

The Coast Guard extinguished the fire completely at 4:30 p.m.
